PRo Bono Project 2017

NAMI Huntsville

Background on the 2017 PRo Bono Nonprofit

NAMI Huntsville is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness serving the Huntsville-Madison County area. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports, and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need.

NAMI support is based on education and mutual understanding of the difficulties mental illness causes. Their trained volunteer teachers and facilitators provide information about care-giving, local mental health resources, crisis response, biological underpinnings of mental health, self-care for caregivers, relapse prevention, and effective communication between family members and mental health providers. More important perhaps, they offer classes and support groups that give people a chance to share common experience and know that someone else understands their difficulties.

NAMI programs are offered free of charge to participants.

The Nonprofit Request

The local affiliate would love to have NAMI-Huntsville as a common household name when one thinks of seeking help for mental illness support. In addition to name recognition and brand building, the group would benefit from funding growth and a larger volunteer base.

Here’s a list of articles about this year’s project.

History of the PRo Bono Project

The NAPRCA PRo Bono Project allows Tennessee Valley nonprofits to apply for free public relations strategic planning. For NAPRCA members, this is community service at its best and a great way to network with PR peers. For nonprofits, it’s skilled PR counsel for free.
