JOB: Public Relations Director

The Downtown Public Library is seeking a Public Relations Director to develop a comprehensive public relations programs that will enhance the Library’s image and position with the general public and staff. This is a full-time position working Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Essential Functions of the Job :

  • Oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of public relations activities that support HMCPL and Foundation mission and goals. Work with all branches in implementation of activities that further external communications efforts.
  • Develop and produce messages that communicate the value of HMCPL and services to constituents; evaluate message effectiveness.
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the communication/public relations functions.
  • Responsible for the achievement of public relations mission, as well as goals of the library.
  • Develop and implement a product line approach to promoting HMCPL library programs and services.
  • Coordinate marketing and promotion of library and its product lines to special groups including, but not limited to, businesses, senior citizens, and teachers.
  • Lead Management Team in public information issues including, but not limited to, long and mid-range planning efforts.
  • Develop planning/budget relationship to ensure activities yield maximum return on investment.
  • Provide public relations and other related training to staff as needed or directed, to enable staff to best represent the Library to patrons and visiting groups.
  • Participate in budget development for the Programming/Public Information area.
  • Working with Library projects and capital campaigns.
